About Maryland Chapter
A Message from the President
The Maryland Chapter of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) provides leadership in the advancement and effective use of technology for all aspects of care.
We have over 1800 members throughout the state and growing! Our membership includes individuals in the fields of information systems, government & policy, clinicians & allied health, bio-medical engineers, telehealth & more. We support and serve academic institutions, nonprofit organizations, government and for profit companies in health care delivery, managed care, consulting and technology. I believe our broad and diverse membership brings the greatest opportunity for conversation around challenges and opportunities within our industry. The “News and Publications” section of the web site provides our current and past newsletters to our membership.
Our goal is to provide professional development through high quality educational sessions and by creating networking opportunities throughout the year for all of our members. We would welcome your participation by attending one of our educational programs or by joining with us to network with other professionals. Maryland HIMSS also offers several volunteer opportunities with committees, including program planning, membership, advocacy, professional development, CXO, and communications. Our “Get Involved” section of the web site provides a listing and description of our committees for those that are interested in becoming part of this great group of volunteers that provide these opportunities to our membership.
In alignment with the national agenda, we will focus our 2017 – 2018 programs around the value of health IT in:
- Supporting Healthcare Transformation
- Expanding Access to High Quality Care
- Increasing Economic Opportunity
- Making Communities Healthier
Please see our “Events & Education” section of the web site for a list of upcoming events.
For more than five years, the Maryland Chapter received the HIMSS Presidential Level designation for Recognition of Advocacy Award. We are seeking additional opportunities to engage our local, state and federal legislators in the dialogue and effective policy implementation to improve use of technology for health outcomes.
