The Advocacy Committee works to mobilize its members and other collaborators on multiple levels of advocacy activities. These activities include educating our members, the Maryland House of Delegates, and members of Congress and their staff on key issues. We accomplish this by acting as a resource for these decision makers on topics related to healthcare technology and policy, as well as provide educational opportunities in Annapolis, DC, and in one-on-one meetings. Members of our chapter have been asked to speak before state and federal committees as experts in their area, potentially affecting policy and decisions while in the development stage.
We are one of the few chapters in the country that has been awarded the HIMSS Presidential Level Chapter for our outstanding efforts in Advocacy. We conduct an annual Healthcare Information Technology Day in Annapolis, a meeting specifically designed to educate and meet our lawmakers. We also participate in the Advocacy Day on the Hill, held in Washington, DC, interacting with our federal lawmakers.
If you like speaking out and participating in events where you are interacting with policy makers, then this committee may be for you.
The Communications Committee is responsible for developing appropriate print and electronic communication vehicles to reach our targeted audiences. This involves maintaining our web site, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn accounts, as well as electronic correspondence out to our membership and potential attendees. It involves a little bit of media experience along with the literary capabilities in order to create articles for our newsletter.
If you like to write, and create, then this committee may be for you.
Community Outreach Committee
The Community Outreach committee has several responsibilities.
- Provide adequate funding for our Educational Programs and Specialty Events, by soliciting support from our associated vendors and donors.
- Ensure that the word is getting out about our upcoming events through our Liaison program.
- Strive to increase our participant rate at our events and increase our overall membership.
- Manages the annual golf tournament, a fun filled day of golf and networking
If you like to promote and interact with both vendors and participants about the events that MDHIMSS is involved with, then this committee may be for you.
The CXO Committee focuses on promoting interaction, engagement, and collaboration of CXO leadership from Maryland facilities. This is done through several specific events targeted towards this group of individuals, to include roundtable discussions, a networking dinner, and several panel discussions during our Educational events.
If you like interacting at the CXO level, then working with this committee may be for you.
The Membership Committee works to grow our membership base so that as many people as possible can take advantage of the opportunities that membership in our chapter presents. With outreach to our current and potential members, we hope to spread the word about all of the great things that this chapter provides.
If you like working with people and furthering the cause of the Maryland Chapter of HIMSS, then this committee may be for you.
The Professional Development Committee works to find opportunities for our members and future members to increase their development in the field of Healthcare Information Management and Technology. This Committee reaches out to our neighboring colleges and universities to spread the word about:
- Our Educational programs and Networking opportunities
- Our Maryland HIMSS Scholarship program
- Opportunities for Industry/Professional Advancement
- Professional Certification programs
If you like the idea of reaching out and helping to foster the development of future Healthcare leaders, then this committee may be for you.
Program Planning Committee
The Program Planning Committee is responsible for developing and implementing plans for annual education and networking opportunities that will have a value to our members and the wider healthcare community. This is primarily accomplished through our Educational Programs. Each year an educational theme is selected and the committee works diligently to find the best speakers available for each of our educational sessions that draw upon that year-long theme. They have to know what topics are pertinent to our participants, and they need to work to establish connections in the industry to pull the best talent from across the country to educate our members on those topics.
If you like making connections and staying abreast of current developments, then this committee may be for you.
