Ed Grogan serves as Senior Director of Information Technology for Sibley Memorial Hospital, Johns Hopkins Medicine, in Washington D.C. In this role, he has oversight of Sibley’s technology portfolio and services, interacts with various Innovation Centers throughout the Johns Hopkins enterprise, and collaborates with colleagues on enterprise initiatives.
Ed has been involved with HIMMS for twenty years and currently serves on the Board of the Maryland Chapter of HIMSS and as Chair of the Advocacy Committee. His interest is engaging in public policy advocacy at the state and federal levels for the adoption of health information technology to drive care transformation to improve quality, patient safety and engagement, and value. He also currently serves on the Technical Advisory Board for the Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients (CRISP), the health information exchange serving Maryland, D.C., and surrounding jurisdictions. He previously helped to establish Maryland eCare for the provision of telemedicine services in the state.
Ed is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Certified Healthcare CIO, Certified Professional in Health Information & Management Systems, and a Certified Clinical Engineer.
He is a Phi Beta Kappa, Summa Cum Laude, graduate of Duke University with majors in Biomedical Engineering and in Public Policy Studies (Health Policy). He has a Master’s Degree in Information Systems Technology from George Washington University. Ed also completed a certificate program in Leadership Strategies for Health Information Technology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He previously served as Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Calvert Health System and Director of Information Systems and Technology Services for Inova Health System. Ed also has served as a Senior IT Consultant for Huron.
At Sibley, IT was presented with the Deming Award in 2017 for Quality and Customer Service. Ed received Innovation, Service Excellence, and Quality awards while working for Inova. While at Calvert, he facilitated receipt of the Most Wired Award from the American Hospital Association and Best Hospital IT Department Award (one of 25 nationwide) from HIMSS Media.
Ed and his wife Peggy have been married for 30 years, and they have three children, one engaged to be married and the other two in college.
