Maryland HIMSS Chapter announces ONC Principal Deputy as Keynote Speaker for Fall Event
Baltimore, Maryland (September 11, 2017) – The Maryland HIMSS Chapter is pleased to announce the keynote speaker for the Fall Networking Event will be Ms. Genevieve Morris, Principal Deputy National Coordinator for the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC). Ms. Morris will provide an update on the national landscape of Health IT including key initiatives and priorities from ONC.
“Our annual fall event is a wonderful opportunity for current and new members to learn about emerging Health IT topics and take actionable information back to their organizations. Attendees will also enjoy the focus on connecting with and expanding their network of colleagues geared toward professional development,” notes Kathryn A. Whitmore, Vice-President and Chair of the Program Planning committee for the Maryland HIMSS Chapter.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 5:00 PM at the Ten Oaks Ballroom in Clarksville, MD 21029. Networking kicks off the event, followed by a Chapter President address and the Keynote address. Dinner follows with an entertaining medley of live Health IT music performed during dessert by Dr. Ross Martin, Program Director of Research and Transformation at CRISP.

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) is at the forefront of the administration’s health IT efforts and is a resource to the entire health system to support the adoption of health information technology and the promotion of nationwide health information exchange to improve health care. ONC is organizationally located within the Office of the Secretary for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
ONC is the principal federal entity charged with coordination of nationwide efforts to implement and use the most advanced health information technology and the electronic exchange of health information. The position of National Coordinator was created in 2004, through an Executive Order, and legislatively mandated in the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH Act) of 2009.
