Advocacy Committee

See you in the Fall.

Communications Committee

The Maryland Chapter of HIMSS is an all-volunteer organization and its strength is derived from the commitment and passion of its volunteers.  Serving on a committee can and should benefit both the organization and the individual volunteer.  It is an opportunity for the individual to provide their skills and expertise to the Chapter to achieve specific goals while also allowing the volunteer to gain additional experience with existing skills as well as developing new skills.  And best of all, it can be fun!

We are always looking for volunteers that have expertise or interest in the areas of web site authoring, graphic design, Constant Contact, newsletter editing, photography, videography, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.  We always would like to do more for our members but much depends on contributions of our volunteers.

Something on your mind?  Please drop us a line .

Communications Committee Chair

Community Outreach Committee

The Community Outreach Committee has been busy drumming up support for our events this year, through our Corporate Sponsorship program.

Our Corporate Sponsors help to defray the cost of our programs for our attendees through their contributions and support. They provide close to half our yearly funding for our activities each year. Our Chapter is similar to Public Radio Station - funded through our "listener support".

At this point in time we have nineteen of our twenty Corporate Sponsorships filled for the year. We are still looking for one more to reach our goal!

With that we have thirteen returning Corporate Sponsors. They include:

Byte Grid
CAS Severn
CTI (Continental Technologies Incorporated)
Dimensional Insight
First Healthcare Advisory Solutions
Futura Mobility (Pursuit)
GeBBS Technology Solutions
More Direct /Connection
Round Table Strategic Solutions

Tek Systems

We would also like to thank seven new vendors for stepping up this year to become Corporate Sponsors. They include:

CTG (Computer Task Group)
Maryland Department of Commerce
Varonis Systems

When looking to do business, please check out our Corporate Sponsors first. They are supporting our Chapter and our membership - please try to support them and their businesses!

Bob Hooper
Community Outreach Chair.

CXO Outreach Committee

CXO Update

Maryland Chapter of HIMSS CXO Outreach Committee kicked off the year with its first CXO roundtable event on September 27 which was a big success, in conjunction with the MDHIMSS Fall Networking Event at Ten Oaks Ballroom.

The roundtable received a presentation on telemedicine from Dr. David Mooradian from Anne Arundel Medical Center (AAMC), outlining AAMC’s pilot project to bring telemedicine to their physician practices. The presentation was comprehensive and informative, exploring not only the technology required to execute a successful telemedicine strategy, but also financial, administrative, regulatory and practical considerations.

Attendees and members were deeply engaged in the subject, as telemedicine is a growing modality for healthcare delivery. There was a lengthy discussion and exchange of updates afterwards on what the various healthcare organizations attending the roundtable were doing. With several CXO’s in attendance, 10 unique hospitals and health systems were represented at this event.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Showcasing our Upcoming Year of Events

By Kathryn A. Whitmore, Maryland HIMSS Board Vice President and Programs Chair

It’s that time of year again! As summer ends, we are excited to have kicked off another year of Maryland HIMSS educational programs and social events. We had a blast at our first social event, Dockside Drinks at Nick’s Fish House on August 31st, and hopefully you were able to attend. If not, please register for our Annual Networking Dinner Event upcoming at Ten Oaks Ballroom in Clarksville on Wednesday evening, September 27th beginning with cocktails and Hours d’oeuvres at 5pm. Please check out our entire Events Calendar for the upcoming year at and update your calendar. Some exciting highlights include an Octoberfest social hour, learning from the Frederick Regional Health System’s Journey to HIMSS EMRAM Stage 7 in November, and more Maryland case study presentations in 2018 at Sheppard Pratt in Towson and the beautiful Doordan Institute at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Back by popular demand, our Call for 2018 Speaking Proposals to solicit Maryland healthcare provider case studies is now open with a proposal submission deadline of Friday, October 6th! This year we are seeking HealthIT enabled Maryland health care transformation success stories from healthcare providers, payers, health information exchanges, government agencies, and academic institutions. To ensure we can offer continuing education credit for attending these presentations, we have adopted guidelines for case study presentations much like national HIMSS uses for the annual conference.

The required submission template including speaking proposal format and guidelines can be found on our website. Proposals must be submitted by emailing a completed template to no later than 5pm EST on Friday, October 6th. We will review submissions via a HIMSS led peer review process and notify those selected for presentation by the end of November 2017. We expect to select one or more Maryland provider case study presentations to augment the February and April 2018 educational programs.

An Update on the National Landscape of Health IT

By Kathryn A. Whitmore, Maryland HIMSS Board Vice President and Programs Chair

Colleagues again connected over cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at another sensational Maryland Chapter of HIMSS Annual Fall Networking Event held on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the Ten Oaks Ballroom in Clarksville. We were delighted to have Ms. Genevieve Morris, Principal Deputy National Coordinator at ONC, deliver the keynote address to a record number of registrants. Her address explored the national landscape of Health IT and covered topics including adoption and interoperability of electronic health records as well as what can be expected from the ONC as a result of the 21st Century Cures Act.

As Maryland HIMSS does every year at the Annual Fall Networking Event, our Health IT scholarship recipient was announced. From left to right, Kathryn Whitmore, Board Vice President and Programs Chair, Karen Wilding, Board President, Debra Roper, Board Scholarships Chair, Unique Moore, CRISP Implementation Specialist at MedChi and this year’s scholarship winner, and keynote speaker Genevieve Morris. Unique is pursuing a Master of Science in Health Systems Management from the University of Baltimore.

We added a special element to the program this year as Dr. Ross Martin, Program Director of Research and Transformation at CRISP and Maryland HIMSS Board Member, performed an entertaining medley of live Health IT music during dessert.

Please check out our entire Events Calendar at Some upcoming highlights include learning from the Frederick Regional Health System’s Journey to HIMSS EMRAM Stage 7 in November and more Maryland case study presentations in 2018 at Sheppard Pratt in Towson and the beautiful Doordan Institute at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

We thank you for your continued interest in Health IT and the Maryland Chapter of HIMSS. As always, our volunteers are committed to offering a wide array of events in support of our mission to lead endeavors which optimize health engagements and care outcomes through the use of health IT. If you would like to volunteer your time to help our Program Planning team, please contact us.
